Challenge

A newly appointed vice-chancellor faced a replaced board, an inexperienced management team and significant institutional performance issues.

A newly appointed vice-chancellor inherited a replaced board, an inexperienced management team and an institution emerging from serious turmoil.

Financial accountability was weak, core infrastructure was unreliable and dependence on government funding constrained confidence in the university’s future.

The executive group needed its first strategic and operational plans, a stronger management mindset and sustained leadership support while institutional capability was rebuilt.

Approach

Establish the plans. Developed the university’s first strategic and operational plans with the executive team, creating a shared direction and explicit priorities.

Coach the management group. Used intensive executive coaching to shift management mindsets, strengthen accountability and help an inexperienced team operate as leaders.

Stay alongside the leadership team. Stayed alongside the vice-chancellor and management group as governance, infrastructure, external relationships and institutional credibility improved.
