Delivering Australia’s first TechnologyOne SaaS+ finance deployment

Large Australian healthcare-sector union

An eight-month finance-platform implementation, including eight years of historical data migration, delivered as the first national TechnologyOne SaaS+ deployment.

Challenge

The client needed to introduce a cloud finance application, migrate detailed historical finance data, automate external transactions and invoice scanning, and manage the risks of a first-of-its-kind SaaS+ delivery model.

The project combined fixed-scope SaaS+ delivery with substantial finance migration, legacy asset-management integration and organisation-wide change.

It was the first national deployment of TechnologyOne’s SaaS+ approach, which bundled licence and implementation into one structure. That created both an opportunity to move quickly and additional risk around scope, planning and delivery.

Client, vendor and delivery teams needed a shared pace, clear roles and rigorous transition work across configuration, eight years of historical data, invoice automation, reporting, training and testing.

Approach

Set up the SaaS+ wrapper. Built a project framework, templates, tools and accelerators around the fixed-scope SaaS+ delivery. The wrapper gave the client and vendor a common structure for scope, governance and transition decisions.

Map the transition in detail. Completed current-to-target process and change mapping, then used detailed gap analysis to resolve the differences between business needs and the fixed solution scope.

Coordinate one delivery team. Provided project management, specialist consulting and fractional support through a blended one-team model with the client and TechnologyOne. Shared rituals and delivery cadence kept decisions and accountabilities visible.

Build readiness through testing and training. Developed multiple training tranches and layered testing across different cohorts. Client-led streams built self-sufficiency while the programme maintained the rigour required for finance configuration, migration and day-zero readiness.

First-of-its-kind delivery

Five risks managed as one programme

The delivery model connected platform, data, people and operational readiness rather than treating the SaaS configuration as the whole project.
  1. 01

    SaaS+ scope

A fixed delivery model wrapped in clear governance, transition and gap-resolution controls.

  2. 02

    Finance transition

Cloud finance, invoice scanning, matching, asset integration and modern reporting.

  3. 03

    Historical data

Detailed migration of eight years of finance data with the required fidelity.

  4. 04

    One delivery team

Client, TechnologyOne and specialist roles working to a shared cadence and culture.

  5. 05

    Readiness

Layered testing, training, change mapping and practical preparation for day zero.

Outcomes

The full agreed scope was delivered in eight months and on schedule. The client moved to a cloud finance platform with historical-data migration, invoice-scanning and matching capability, a modern asset solution and a broader self-service model for finance users.

The work also road-tested the national SaaS+ deployment method and established reusable delivery assets across configuration, migration, testing and day-zero readiness.

  • Agreed scope delivered in full
  • Delivered on schedule
  • Reusable SaaS+ delivery assets created
